Located in the Dhauladhar Himalayan ranges, Khajjiar is the most beautiful tourist place of Dalhousie. Despite being situated in the high and huge mountains of the Himalayas, Khajjiar has grasslands. Because of these grasslands, Khajjiar is also called Switzerland of India. Situated in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, Khajjiar is a famous tourist destination in India, situated amidst the dense deodar forests.
Almost all the travelers visiting Dalhousie write the name of Khajjiar on their bucket list. The distance from Dalhousie to Khajjiar is only 25 km and its altitude is 1950 meters (5890 feet) above sea level.
There is also a small story behind Khajjiar being called Mini Switzerland. On 07 July 1992, the Vice Counselor of Switzerland, Willie P. Blaser, who was also the Chancery Chief of Switzerland in India, was the first to visit this place in India during his visit to Khajjiar, the first time he called Khajjiar "Mini Switzerland"
Willie P. Blaser also marked the walking distance of 6194 kilometers (3849 miles) from Khajjiar to the Swiss capital Bern on a signboard in Khajjiar. Khajjiar is only the place out of 160 such places in the world whose topographical similarity is very similar to the topographical conditions of Switzerland.
Willie P. Blazer had also taken a piece of stone with him from Khajjiar at that time and he got the pieces of that stone placed in the Parliament of Switzerland.
The biggest center of tourist attraction in Khajjiar is the Khajjiar Lake located here. The Khajjiar lake is situated in the middle of the grasslands, that's Khajjiar looks very much like Switzerland. This Place surrounding the lake is the best place to spend time with your family and friends.
Surrounded by huge deodar and pine trees, this lake is no less than a paradise for nature lovers and photographers. Very beautiful views of sunrise are visible from near the lake, the sunlight coming through the pine and pine trees makes you feel a different kind of pleasant sunrise.
Apart from sunrise on the banks of the lake, you can also enjoy a variety of adventure activities such as horse riding, zorbing, paragliding, and trekking. Apart from these activities, there are also small and big restaurants for food and drink.
