Malana is an ancient village situated in the northeast of the Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh. It is on 19 km (43 min) distance from Kasol and it is 3029 meters (9938 ft) in height from sea level. Unlike other tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh, It is a secluded village situated beside the "Malana River" between Chandrakhani and Deotibba Mountains, it is a side valley of the Parvati Valley. The village is known for its strong culture and religious beliefs. This village is a village unaffected by the modern world, and the people living in this village have their own lifestyle and social structure, the people here follow their customs very strictly, many documentaries like "Malana, Globalization of Himalayan Village" and "Malana, A Lost Identity" have also been made on this village.
India is the largest democratic country in the world, but if it is said that there is a village in this country where the Constitution of India is not considered. It's hard to believe this quickly, but it is a fact. There is such a village in Himachal Pradesh, where people do not accept the Constitution of India and follow their thousands of years old tradition. It is said that the world got its first democracy from here. In ancient times some rules were made in this village, these rules were later changed permanently to a parliamentary system.
This village has two houses of its own. A lower house and an upper house. The upper house consists of a total of 11 members, of which 8 are elected from among the villagers, while three other Kardars, Gurus, and Priests are permanent members. The unique thing about this house is that there is definitely one member from each house of the village. Only the eldest person in the house represents. At the same time, if a member dies in the Upper House, the entire Upper House is reconstituted.
Not only the house, but Malana village also has its own administration. They have their own laws to maintain law and order. They also have their own police station and the government also does not interfere in this.
Now it is the turn for the hearing in the House. All kinds of matters are settled in the House. Here the decisions are decided by the deity. The historic Choupal is installed in the form of Parliament House. 11 members of the upper house sit up and the members of the lower house sit down. Although all kinds of decisions are settled here, if a matter gets stuck which is difficult to understand, then this matter is sent to the last stop.
These villagers consider Jamlu Rishi as their deity. Their decision is considered true and final. After handing over a case to Jamlu Devta, it is decided in a very strange way. Two Goats are brought from the two parties whose matter is involved. An equal amount of poison is filled by making an incision in the leg of both the Goats. After filling the poison, the Goats wait to die and the party whose Goat dies first is guilty. Now no one can even question this final decision, because they believe that Jamlu Devta himself has given this decision.
However, since 2012, a lot of changes have been seen in this village. For example, earlier there was no election here, but after the year 2012, elections have started here.
The inhabitants of Malana speak a mysterious language, which is known as Kanashi or Raksha. Some consider it to be a Rakshasa dialect. The language here is being a mixture of Sanskrit and several Tibetan dialects, but it does not correspond to any language or dialect is spoken around.
Nestled in the lap of the beautiful Himalayan Mountains, this mysterious village is hiding many mysteries, the natural texture here is also very attractive and charming, so tourists come here with the eagerness to know more about this village.
